I’m coming home. Tell the world I’m coming home.
I’m back where I belong. I’ve never felt so strong.
– Coming Home by Sean Combs
Being able to photograph deployment homecomings has been an honor for me. Last year, I photographed my first deployment homecoming session & it brought me to tears. It humbly put me in the shoes of so many families across the world. Knowing you won’t see your loved one for months to a year is such a sacrifice that the families & servicemen give to our country. Many of the spouses are solo parenting during this time while possibly working and just trying to survive the days until they are reunited with their loved one.
Dave’s deployment homecoming session was no exception to the waterworks on my end. The moment that these two sweet kids got to see their Daddy for the first time in six months was sheer joy. When his wife, Leah, got to touch her husband’s face for the first time since spring, you see love and adoration all rolled into one. Then, you see his Dad & Mom thankful that they got the opportunity to see their son again. Lastly, a brother ready to welcome home his only sibling with open arms.
These moments in their story are priceless and quite indescribable. I don’t feel like I can do it justice. As a wife of a veteran and friend to many whose husbands & wives are still serving in the military, I love being able to serve military families in this way. To document & share their family’s story that will be passed onto their children & grandchildren. It’s really special for me to be a part of such an intimate gathering of family. To be reunited with loved ones and know that you’re home. I can’t think of anything better than that. Can you?
Welcome home, Dave!
