What Do I Wear for My Next Family Session?!
If you’re like me, the hardest part of a family portrait session is figuring out what to wear for family pictures. There are so many options out there and the more kids you have the more difficult it is to coordinate your outfits. This is hands down the biggest pain point for my family clients. After seeing this pattern, I created a What to Wear Guide for Family Portraits. This guide is by far my most popular resource that I’ve ever created.
My families have found this guide so helpful that I decided to revamp my original guide and release a What to Wear mini guide FREE to anyone who wants it! Included in this guide are my top 10 tips for styling your family’s wardrobe, family outfit examples for all ages and a helpful planning worksheet. I’m SO excited about this resource being available to my customers and anyone planning to do a family session soon. I’m even going to give you a peak into the guide before you download it! You can also go straight to the guide below.
Wardrobe Styling Tips
Here are 4 of my 10 wardrobe tips, included in the guide:
- Matching is out. Coordinating is in. Gone are the days where the whole family is wearing white shirts and jeans for their family session. To create a timeless look, you must coordinate your outfits in a way that they tie in to each other.
- Avoid fluorescents. They often cast colors on your skin and appear harsh out of the camera.
- Muted primary colors are winners every time. Yellow (mustard), red (burgundy, wine, maroon) and blue (navy) are colors that really stand out in portraits.
Wear clothes that fit well. I understand that you want to invest in clothes that will last your children a long time, but you don’t want them to look slouchy in the pictures you’re paying for. Build their outfit from clothes that fit them very well, especially children under two years old.
