Anytime I go to a new location, I’m always a little apprehensive of how the photoshoot will go. I’m so used to my “favorite spots” at many of the local parks in the area. They’re like a hot cup of coffee while reading a book snuggled under a blanket on a rainy day.
Lately, I’ve felt the need to push myself in different ways and this is one of them. Exploring a new location is exciting and challenges me to look at the landscape through a different lens because it’s brand new. It’s also fresh for my clients, which I love.
The Folga family hadn’t had pictures done in 6 years so I knew I had a tall task to fulfill. I had heard of Oakes Quarry Park in Fairborn, Ohio as being an almost desolate looking location and it intrigued me. I loved the simplicity of the sparse plants, the rock paths and mirror like ponds. Through my pre-session questionnaire, I garnered that Susan likes clean, minimal backgrounds and knew this would be a great family to photograph here.
Alex & Rich made me work for those genuine smiles and expressions, but thankfully they warmed up to me. It’s always a win for me when I get a dad who doesn’t love pictures to smile and laugh! Some of my favorites from their session though are Susan and Alex together. Susan’s love for her son is beautifully evident in these images. I hope they will cherish these for years to come!
